Im debating on whether or not to put smoke stacks on my 2001 cummins. i love the unique look it gives a pickup. im unfamiliar with stacks, what are some of the advantages and disadvantages with stacks??? Ive been considering BIG stacks like 7 inch miter cut, were is a good place to get them and how much do they run $$$. thanks..

I have dual 6", and I LOVE them!!! Took them off for a couple of months and put the 4" out the back, back on...well lets just say the stacks are back on. The worst thing about them is when they get water in them. If you can get a something like a coffee can to put over them it helps to keep your truck a little cleaner. I know some of the guys choose to put some kind of valve in them to let the water out... I know if you talk to Josh from Grand Rock he will hook you up. Why would you turn down this look...

I was going to do the stacks but decided against it and went exiting out the stock location. I love my 5" but kinda wish I would have went with the stacks.

We just did a stack kit install for Diesel World Magazine, which will have a step by step instructions. When the kit is installed correctly (which the one in the picture is not) you will have one hole in the bed for the y-pipe to drop down, then you will have 4 holes to drill in the bed for the y-pipe to SIT ON the 2 saddle clamps that mount everything to the bed. (which are not shown in picture) and 2 holes for the "L" brackets in the bed rail. (one on each side) Here is a picture of a kit installed sorta correctly...LOL he left off his "L" brackets...
I think they look awesome as well. They aren't really a big thing here in CA, but I wish I could get some! The one thing that holds me back is the loss of bed space, I wish there was another way to do it. I hate the fact a pipe would take up a decent amount of bed room, where our dirtbikes would need to butt up against the bed to tie down.
i have a 6' bed with stacks and getting my dirtbike and quad around was not a problem...i cut a 2x6 to the width of the bed to keep the tires from hitting the pipe and with the dirtbike i could close the tail gate, with the quad the tail gate would almost shut but i just left it down
I know I'll ruffle some feathers on here, but I used to like the stacks look until everyone and their uncle got them in this area. Heck, there are a ton of gasser trucks running around with stacks now and sound like crap. If it would still be less common, I'd be more into it.

i hear this a lot from friends...i actually know people that took their stacks off b/c of the growing popularity of them.
my question is: if everyone switched from stacks to a 4-5" exhaust with a huge tip would u go back to stacks?
i hardly ever saw a diesel that was blowing black smoke around my area, but now every diesel u pass is rolling it. i was thinking about taking off all my mods and returning it to stock b/c everyone and their unlce is rolling coal.
