sorry if this is the wrong area
ive got an 2001 3500 12v cummins dually(it had a heart trans plant lol)
and the power steering has been making a humming noise when i make a hard turn and sometimes just turning in town and stuff
i checked the fluid and it seems to be ok not milky or anythin
and i have looked for leak and nothin
any ideas of what it could be?
and where could i find a diagram of the belt and pully system for the 98cummins 12v
Change the fluid to Valvoline synethic PS fluid and try that.
If no change, take off the high pressure line off the bottom of the pump 18mm remove the piston housing 1" there's two parts plus spring last. Clean the screen and stretch the spring to 2.5" and put everything back. refill with the synethic oil and you'll be amazed at the one finger steering!
i took mine apart this week. and the screen was clean.. im battling a sticking issue in the steering and a small whine from the pump. sticking happens in the same spot every time. ive checked the joints in the column, ok. the intermedaite shaft, ok. greased adn lubed everything in the steering. i called the shop where i got the 3 turn gear box fr\om. and they said. its not the box. but theyd be more than happy to look at it if i take it off... im going to keep looking before i put the truck down for a few days.
