Click when I Crank??

Hey guys,

It hasn't happened for a day or two.....
The other morning....pbly round 40 or so degrees..nothin' too cold, truck not plugged in I waited for the wait to start light to flick off I turned the keys forward and got nothn' but a click. It happened twice then started fine. It did it that afternoon again but it hasn't happened since.
I had the clutch all the way in, so that can be counted off. I took all of the battery cables off and cleaned all the corrosion and crud off of them and posts. Checked the starter cables and they were just fine.........

What happened?

What's gonna happen?

Has anyone had this issue turn into something astronomical after a few clicks.........????

Thanks,

Joe H.

no, the click tells you that the starter isn't getting the current that it needs to crank....

i went to start my rig last night, about 8 pm..opened the door, turned the key on, jumped in, turned the key and then all the electrical stuff in my truck went off...popped the hood, and, the damn terminal on the driver's side negative post was off...that coulda been bad

usualy a click, means the starter contacts are nearing the end of its life, you have two options
1) replace starter 400-900$ depending where you buy it
2) replace contact strips 5-35$

heres a link to replacement parts and how to replace them

and check the motor brushes while your at it. replacement brushes are also on that larry b link further down, if the stator is heavily pitted though you won't be able to rebuild it. if there is some mild pitting you can polish em out.

with heavy pitting there is the chance that the stator contacts will be out of round. resulting in even more pitting when you try to start it.
