Popping and cracking noise in steering wheel area?
What would cause a popping and cracking noise in steering wheel area? This has been doing this for awhile now and it hasn't progressed any worse yet and nothing else seems to be affected.

if the noise is coming from close to the steering wheel it would have to be your turn signal switch. its like a doughnut and the steering shaft does through it. sometimes something falls off of it or a piece of it falls off or breaks. you have to take the two screws out of the back side of the steering wheel and the airbag will pull off. then use a steering wheel puller to take the wheel off and the gear wheel behind it too. then you will be able to look at the switch while you turn the shaft and see whats going on. this is really the only thing that can make noise.

Yes, cruise still works. Nothing else effected except it makes noise when steering wheel is turned.

This freakin noise just started in mine too. It only happens when I turn the wheel.. There has to be a fix besides replacing all that crap. Its just a simple creak/pop noise...?

Are you sure the noise is coming from inside the cab by the steering wheel or outside because mine has a popping sound to but it is from the outside and i believe its coming from my steering box. Just wondering
