Blacking out stock bumpers

I have seen a few trucks that have blacked out stock bumpers. I wanna do this with my truck, Did you guys have to rough up the chrome for the paint to stick?? what paint?? Pics??

me too that looks sick as hell. but i do know they sell replacement ones painted black im sure some people went that route

You need to sand and use some type of bonding primer,or wash primer as its also called. The bonding or wash primer bonds to the chrome and gives the paint something to stick to.

i know Randy did alot of spray paint to his truck and it looks nice ill try and get him to chime in.

john, i did mine last year with spray paint. i roughed up the chrome with 220 grit sandpaper and then cleaned and degreased. then i shot all chrome with self etching primer from duplicolor. let it dry for an hour and then shot with krylon bbq and stove paint. the krylon paint turns out the best imho. the other bbq paints out there don't go on nearly as nice. anyways, if you want help personally let me know. i got all that i needed from the napa on sara by intel. i did everything that was chrome. it has since needed some touchups, but the overall look made it worthwhile to me. gotta run, but at least wanted to chime in since my name was thrown out there. i'll check in later and see if anyone has any specific questions. here's a few shots of the rig.

Ok so i can get all the sandpaper and primer at napa? And you kinda confused me with the bbq and stove paint, is that spray paint made for high heat?

yeah. they have it at napa also. it's specifically called krylon-bbq and stove paint.
