Exclamation Apps Question

My truck has been acting funny (dead pedal occasionally) and code P0122, I've cleaned the ground behind the starter and the code is gone now, but now its been idling a lot higher (900-1100), without me pressing on the foot pedal. Does anyone know how to check the apps sensor for high resistance or have a diagram so I can ohm test the wiring harness to the ECM. Any help would be much appreciated, I don't really want to go out and buy a $400 sensor.

Alternate APPS

Here you will find a much better designed APPS for A LOT cheaper price than the OEM.
Thanks to Mopar1973man for his great site!

Just get the Timbos apps, I got one a few weeks ago and its alot easier to just replace it than to try and recalibrate the old one because to do that you have to remove the same stuff that it takes to put a new on and if it was like mine the recalibrating fix didnt work so had to get a new one anyhow. Save ya self alot of trouble and just get the timbo one.....

also make sure that since you messed with the ground that may have reset the computer. Try unplugging the batteries for a few min and reconnecting then do the APPS calibration before starting the truck. Then fire her up and see if it idles as normal. It may not be the answer but hey... Its free!

ok so i just installed the new williams apps sensor and it fixed most of my trucks problems, but the truck still idles a bit too high (about 900 rpm) after its been running for a little bit. And it only seems to be doin it when the truck is in motion. Also when i was running the cruise control it tripped codes 0122, 0121, and 0222. When the codes were tripped i turned the cruise control off and was getting off the freeway. When i came to the stop sign the truck was stuck at 1600 rpm and wouldn't idle down until i turned the truck completely off. After i turned it off and back on the codes went away. Oh and the new sensor seems to have left about a 1/4'' of free play in my foot pedal.

Did you check the new apps with a volt meter and adjust it if needed? The "1/4 inch of free play" is normal. I noticed that too when I put mine in. I got used to it and don't even notice it anymore. The Williams apps also doesn't seem to be as touchy as the oem one either.

Ok sounds good, now Im not as worried, but wat about the new code p0222 and the issue with the cruise control. Does anyone have an idea, could it just be the cruise control module itself? And has anyone else dealt with the idle issue? Yeah I adjusted the sensor when I put it in.

P0222 code...
APPS Error Codes

DTC P0222: IDLE VALIDATION SIGNALS BOTH LOW
Description
Idle validation signals are monitored when ignition is on. DTC may be stored if Engine Control Module (ECM)
senses no voltage signal from Idle Validation Switch (IVS) No. 1 and/or IVS No. 2. Possible causes are:
defective Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS), defective ECM, or defective connectors or wiring.

Testing
1. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect APPS connector. APPS is located on bracket, just above fuel injection
pump. Start engine and allow engine to idle. Using DVOM, measure voltage between
cylinder block and terminal No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) on APPS connector. This is the IVS
No. 1 circuit. If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 5.5 volts or less, go to step 8 .

2. With engine idling, using DVOM, measure voltage between cylinder block and terminal No. 2 (Light
Green/Dark Blue wire) on APPS connector. This is the IVS No. 2 circuit. If voltage is 4.5 volts or less, go
to next step. If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, shut engine off and go to step 13 .

3. Shut engine off. Measure resistance between cylinder block and terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Dark Blue
wire) on APPS connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or
more, go to step 7 .

4. Ensure ignition is off and APPS connector is still disconnected. Disconnect ECM connector. ECM is
located on driver's side of engine, just in front of fuel transfer pump and contains a 50-pin connector. Measure resistance between cylinder block and terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Dark Blue wire) on
APPS connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair
short to ground in Light Green/Dark Blue wire between APPS and ECM.

5. Ensure ignition is off. Ensure APPS connector and ECM connector are still disconnected. Measure
resistance between terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Dark Blue wire) and terminal No. 4 (Black/Yellow wire)
on APPS connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair
short in wiring as necessary.

6. Ensure APPS connector and ECM connector are still disconnected. Measure resistance between terminal
No. 2 (Light Green/Dark Blue wire) and terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire) on APPS connector. If
resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace ECM. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short in wiring as necessary.

7. Ensure ignition is off and APPS connector is still disconnected. Disconnect ECM connector. ECM is
located on driver's side of engine, just in front of fuel transfer pump and contains a 50-pin connector. Measure resistance between terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Dark Blue wire) on APPS connector and
terminal No. 16 (Light Green/Dark Blue wire) on ECM connector. If resistance is less than 5
ohms, go step 13 . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green/Dark Blue wire between
APPS and ECM.

8. Shut engine off. Ensure APPS connector is still disconnected. Measure resistance between cylinder block
and terminal No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) on APPS connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next
step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to step 12 .

9. Ensure ignition is off and APPS connector is still disconnected. Disconnect ECM connector. ECM is
located on driver's side of engine, just in front of fuel transfer pump and contains a 50-pin connector. Measure resistance between terminal No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) and terminal No. 1 (Black/Light
Blue wire) on APPS connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or
less, repair short in wiring as necessary.

10. Ensure APPS connector and ECM connector are still disconnected. Measure resistance between terminal
No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) and terminal No. 4 (Black/Yellow wire) on APPS connector. If resistance is 5
ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short in wiring as necessary.

11. Ensure ignition is off. Ensure APPS connector and ECM connector are still disconnected. Measure
resistance between cylinder block and terminal No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) on APPS connector. If
resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace ECM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Orange wire
between APPS and ECM.

12. Ensure ignition is off and APPS connector is still disconnected. Disconnect ECM connector. ECM is
located on driver's side of engine, just in front of fuel transfer pump and contains a 50-pin connector. Measure resistance between terminal No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) on APPS connector and
terminal No. 1 (Brown/Orange wire) on ECM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms,
go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Orange wire between APPS and
ECM.

13. Ensure ignition is off and APPS connector is still disconnected. Measure resistance between terminals
No. 2 and 6 on APPS connector (component side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If
resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace APPS sensor.

14. Ensure ignition is off. Ensure APPS connector and ECM connector are still disconnected. Measure
resistance between terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire) on APPS connector and terminal No. 11
(Black/Light Blue wire) on ECM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance
is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between APPS and ECM.

15. Ensure ignition is off. Ensure APPS connector and ECM connector are still disconnected. Measure
resistance between terminal No. 6 (Brown/Orange wire) and terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Dark Blue wire)
on APPS connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, test is complete. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair
short in wiring as necessary.

As for the cruise control... The PCM on the firewall is the cruise control.
