Drop My Ride
I would like to drop the 02 below. Front Best I can tell it has a leveling kit in the front, that is supposed to be about 2.5" I think. Also, it seems that 4" in the front would be the max I would be willing to go because this is the distance between the rubber snubber and the plate it strikes. Would cutting out 1 round of the coil work =~ 4"? Can you cut the coil with a hacksaw or do you need a torch? Rear The block that the leaf pack sits on is 4.75" tall. Can I just remove this block? Will the leaves align and sit correctly with this block removed? Thanks! And come on, do not beat me up for wanting to ... "Drop" My Ride!

Gus Farmer at Farmboys Diesel Performance has his 99 down rather low, link below, and his is a 4x4 as well. I do not think I can get mine that low without some more expensive parts - do not want to go that route. Can a 99 be lowered more than an 02? 1999 Dodge Ram Cummins Diesel - Diesel Trucks - Diesel Power Magazine

Do NOT use a TORCH!! spring steel will collapse if you heat it up as you will mess with the temper heating it up. You can install 1/2 ton springs Im going to run 3/4 ton gasser springs to drop 1" or so then make new blocks to match the front drop so its level or 1" above the front

IC-Smoke I agree on the torch! Just what I was concerned about as well. Can you cut a hardened spring with a hacksaw or bandsaw? cmns2500 It will take me a few days to get a picture up. Need one for the avatar as well. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing what it will look like before doing the work!

Here's a picture of mine. It had a 2.5" skyjacker lift on it with the "add a leaf" in the rear, now it has no blocks in the rear and 1500 coil springs(no engine, so the front will sit down a little lower). It dropped it a total of about 4 1/2", that was measuring from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender.

dknaks, Everything that I have is for sale ... at the right price! I doubt that you would pay my price. smokin24valve, Great pictures! Thanks a lot, very helpful. Did you leave the skyjacker lift in when you put in the 1500 springs? Seems that the front would drop too much when you put in that 1100 lb. cummins!? Did you buy new front springs or get them used? In the rear, did you pull out the overload leaf?

I put the block back in just to see how it was going to sit and it only dropped the front less than 1". I bought the 1500 springs used for $20. The overload leaf pack does not affect the ride height, there are 3 leafs in the main pack and one leaf under that. I will probably put "add a leaf" back in to help level it up. The rear drive shaft in going to have to be shortened though. Not sure about the front drive shaft because I was waiting to get the engine back in first, but I doubt it will have to be shortened, because if anything the axle sits a little further forward than it did with the lift. Here is a picture of how it sits with out the "add a leaf", the front sits a couple of inches higher than the rear.
