Reading threads like this infuriate me..... There is NO / ZERO / ZILCH emissions equipment on the 2nd gen 24 valve trucks. You technically could remove the entire exhaust system and the smog tech should care no more or less. That said, you probably wont pass the noise ordinance of your area but nonetheless, stacks have nothing to do with the smog requirements of your year truck.

These are reasons people think CA is a terrible place to live. Its a great state.....once you get north of Sacramento.

That's not completely true 12 valves came with egr valves is some cases. they are also forcing company's to put dpf systems on pre dpf engines and you wouldn't beleave the problems it cauesing and the state doesn't care if it works or not they have destroyed many cat engines over this

Thats why I said "24 valve" engines. The 12 valve (pre 98.5) trucks even had catalytic convertors. The 24 valve trucks from 98.5 to 02 had nothing on them. They even ran the engine venting atmospherically.

I think what you're referring to regarding DPF systems is for class 8 trucks, not non-commercial vehicles.

I realize we have moved on a bit in the topic of discussion, but my old 85 chevy used to fail every year. Everywhere I went in the San Diego area refused to even check it because it had an aftermarket carb on it. "We can't smog test this because this isn't stock equipment. You have to return it back to original equipment before we can even run the test"

I always tell people "loved the state. Hated the people." I couldn't stand the EPA regulations and how everything was ran. It seemed like the government was always robbing me.

The money invested into Tesla at least went somewhere. Have you seen the number of cars pumped out each DAY? If you want to go to battle over something, look at Solyndra ... didnt create any jobs and also wasted the money plain and simple.

You should also investigate Tesla's business model. Mark my words that they will have an electric car that will be cheaper than our trucks cost new in 5 years.

Not saying electric is the way to go but I am ok with government investing in business. Its not the correct thing for a government but whatever at this point. The rest of the pork and paying off their buddies is what infuriates me.

And of all the electric cars, a Tesla would be the first I buy. They look pretty sweet. The volt ... eh not so much ...
