remove the friggin axle hub and shaft to get the damn rear rotor off??? ummm.....

I may be wrong here, since I have yet had to do brakes on my 2001.5, but I would imagine that the rotors are outboard style. The way you described with the hub needing to be removed is an inboard design. This is what I know from larger applications anyway.

The rear disks come off without pulling the axleshaft. There are two or three clips that hold the disk on from the factory-for the assembly line. they are on the studs, so you would have to clip them off with side cutters or the rotor wont come off. the only other thing it could be would be rust holding things on.
