Well, I guess that is what I get for going to a tire place!

I don't doubt they will fit, but everything I find on-line says that I need at least an 8" wide rim for 285's.

To make matters even worse, most "tire" places won't override the computer and the stock tire size unless you are doing a +1 or +2.

Decided not to get new rims - just not in the budget right now Doesn't help that I can't get rid of my set of GM wheels and tires - selling those was going to pay for my new wheels!

Found a guy with a set of stock chrome-plated rims and stock nerf bars - price was too good to turn down. Not what I wanted, but they are better than the stock steel wheels and they will get me through the winter. I was really surprised to see that the wheels were only 16x6.5.

Went to get my tires today and was told they would only do the stock 245/75/16 or optional 265/75/16 because that is what the computer said.

Was kind of mad because the guy that sold me the wheels said he had 35x12.5 on there without any problems.

Already had 245/75 on there, so went with the 265. They still look small in the wheel well, but better than the 245.

I guess I could have bought the 285 and had them mounted at my buddy's shop, but I needed tires and they were 4 for the price of 3. Sticking with the 245 would have let me use one of the good tires as a spare, but I decided to risk it for now.

If I can round up another chrome wheel I will go back and get a spare and rotate all 5. If not I guess I'll check out the used tire places and see what they have in 265/75.

Guess I'll start saving and hope for a nice tax refund check next year, then I'll get some "real" tires on the truck!
