Ok so apparently this doesn't work on my truck. Everything went (fairly) smoothly, and when I was done, the throttle always wants to return to idle. No way of holding it open....apparently the spring is too strong?

Anybody know if the dealer can change a setting on my 2001 so I can use the cruise control buttons?

The cable I used has a lock feature. You pull it out to increase the speed, then twist it to lock it in place.

There was an IDLE up option installed on an 80's model GMC Sierra 3500 Camper package conversion to a flatbed car hauler. It has a Carb'd 350 w/ manual trans. The cable was rigged directly to the throttle with a small necklace looking chain that broke. I replace the chain with 3 heavyduty zip ties (2 were zipped tight to hold the other one in between). Works like a charm and I can either idle it up 1-300 rpm's or pull her wide open (not that I'd need to) to operate the bed/winch - it's really fast now!

I plan on doing this to my jeep too after mounting the winch so that I can idle her up while pullin people out!

Any pictures of this? Or is it on a Powerstroke?

Hey Mghty Dodge where did you get the locking cable from?I'm thinking this is the best way to do it......

Well actually I got it at a yard sale. Some garden tractors used a locking throttle cable, Wheelhorse, Bolens come to mind. I have seen them on ebay.

i have done the same with a locking cable and it works great. the only thing different was i put the cable on the right side of the column so its a straight line to the pedal. but regardless works great....

From Left to Right: Reverse work lights, Tool box lights, fog lights, and Off-road lights on the headache rack. I have two more lighted rocker switches on the dash (next to the OD button) to control my exhaust brake and H2O/Meth. system (once it's installed).

Benefit of using the high idle is keeping the EGTs over 300* to prevent cylinder wash during prolonged idling.
