This problem is not only for 12V's. Some of the old cases were left over and used on the 98, 99, and even 2000 24V's. If you have a 24V in these years you better check it.

Just had mine done two weeks ago and it was out about a 1/16 at 216k. Good time for a new water pump, belt & hoses also.

Ever heard of the Killer Dowel Pin? (KDP)

Read and react on this one men
Yep... I did read about this killer dowel pin only two weeks ago the very first time - but I did experience the effect of it in November 2004 already ... without having a clue what the reason for it was - until nowI will check if I can find some pics to show you guys how the damage would look like...Tom

More than that ... especially since DC had increased the spare parts cost by almost 100% right after closing down most of the official Chrysler shops over here in Germany - just the gear housing was 850$ plus immense cost for the labour - not exactly a cheap experience ...

i've been telling my dad about the kdp and his truck with 175k on runs like a champ and has never had this done yet, he's wants to get this done but is unsure where to bring his truck, would a diesel shop know all about the kdp.

That really depends on the shop...call around and see how much they know about it and what they charge. You can always do it yourself. If you want/need some info about how to do it - just ask.

Both Cummins and DC are very aware of the problem. They will not readily ADMIT there is a potential problem.

Tabbing the pin is a good method. I will not call it the best method. Good intentions of doing the tab method versus simply using a jig method can mean disaster.
Pick one and do it TODAY, not tomorrow.

yeah i would do it myself but im not sure that im up to that task. and my dad would more likey trust a shop to do it than me if it means he pays more, this is work truck and he relys on very much.
what is involved in tabbing the kdp, i know its in the timing case. which should be on the front of the motor, but thats about all i know as far as how to fix this.
