Strange reverse gear problem

I'm in the process of rebuilding an nv4500 and I can't get the reverse gear to slid onto the mainshaft. I've got a new reverse gear and new needle bearing, but its like the needles in the new bearing are too big and won't allow the gear to slip over it while its on the shaft. The shaft is in good shape and the gear will slide on easy with the old bearing, but I can't even force it on with the new needle bearing.

My uncle found out that bearings made overseas are not always the right size. J\He bought a bearing for an old BIG truck transmission. The bearing did not fit (even though it was through the dealer). He found an old U.S.A. made bearing and it worked perfectly.

You may have Chinese junk that does not work.
