Okay so I just did an engine swap, put everything back together and I stopped at a friends house and I noticed I have a small radiator leak. It seems to be coming from drivers side bottom corner. Never had this issue before the swap has anyone had a leak there befor? Is it my best bet to just replace it or can I some how do a repair if I can really pinpoint where it's coming from?!
Check if it's coming from the top radiator hose and running down.
My passenger side hose clamp came just a tiny bit loose and leaked some coolant out. When it gets cold, your hoses can leak if the clamps aren't tight.
You gotta pinpoint where it's leaking - throw a pressure tester on there and see where the fluid is coming from and go from there.
The drivers side bottom corner is where the drain is. It could be stuck or have a bad seal. Because it is so prone to leak, and is hard to open and close I no longer use mine, I siphon the coolant out.
I narrowed down the leak to where the drain is but not out of the drain it was right underneath it. Leak seemed to have stopped today tho towed trailer more than 100 miles didn't see any water leak periodically today? Is there a seal between where the radiator goes to the drain plug??
Look through the grill at the top of the tank right across from the top hose fitting. These plastic tanks are bad about cracking there where the hot coolant enters and hits. The gas and deisel both do it. Any radiator shop should be able to replace just the tank. I think mine was about 80 bucks.
Just another thought along the lines of what GAmes said: Mine did that a few years ago after I flushed the cooling system. Same leak, same place. Turned out the drain pet**** was broken. A new drain valve fixed the problem. As I recall, opening and closing that valve is not exactly intuitive so a little too much force on a cheap plastic valve... you get the picture.
The benefit of using a syphon is you won't get a boatload of grease and dirt in the coolant if you plan on reusing it. With the vertical tanks almost all of the coolant can be taken out, not so when removing the lower hose.
