My 97 decided not to start this morning and I couldn't figure out why then when reading articles about the fuel shutoff solenoid I thought that could be it.
Ive seen mentioned Larry Bs auto parts and both my solenoid and relay were replaced with that but here's my problem it doesn't let me start the truck but will let it shut off, I thought you had to manually shut it off if the solenoid wasnt working?
What's my options here? I'm gonna get some napa parts to replace Larry Bs and hope that fixes it!
The FSS is controlled by two circuits, one from the starter that activates the FSS relay to pull the FSS up. The other circuit from the ignition switch holds the FSS up. Turning the ignition on will not pull the FSS up but it will hold it up if you raise it up by hand. The FSS gives very little trouble unless the boot is torn. The FSS relay on the other hand is know to go bad, most guys around here with 12v's carry a spare in their glove box.
As for your gauges and trans not shifting it sounds like you lost power to the PCM, check the wire you replaced and check fuses. According to my Haynes manual fuses 3 & 8 in the power distribution box controls most engine & PCM power, fuse 9 in the cab supplies power to the PCM. Hope this helps to get you going.
I found a possible culprit, the solenoid wires that go to a plug all burnt up and melted so ill have to get a new solenoid and see but could that cause no power to the PCM?
