Hello everybody. I am posting here because I believe I am having problems with my 47RH transmission. I did a some research before posting this but I wanted some help that is specific to my transmission rather than general advice.
Problem 1:
Fluid is constantly low.
I checked my fluid a couple weeks ago, truck running in neutral and warmed up, and the dipstick was dry. I added some and it seemed to fix it. I picked up my truck from the shop today and suspected it to be low (slipping, real rough shifts, etc) so I checked again. Bone dry. It is not dripping on the ground as far as I can tell.
Problem 2:
Transmission acts low on fluid right after startup.
When I start my truck, I always let it warm up for a few minutes with the trans in neutral. This is not only to help the engine, but also to help the transmission. Even when I do it shows symptoms of low fluid, but then it clears up. I suspect the fluid drains back into the pan when it sits for a few hours.
Problem 3:
Torque converter lockup.
The TC in my transmission usually locks up around 50mph under normal acceleration. When it does, the rpms drop like they should, but it revs back up a tiny amount and goes back down. and stays there. So the rpms drop, go back up a little, and go back down when the TC locks. This doesn't always happen, but it is starting to happen more and more.
Problem 4: I don't think this is trans-related but I'm going to throw it in anyway.
Low idle on startup after sitting for a few hours.
When I start the truck, it idles around 600 in park or neutral and slowly climbs to normal levels. I have turned the idle up (it was LOW when I bought it, so low that I couldn't make tight turns without it stalling) so it idles around 900 in park or neutral, and around 700-750 in gear.
Problem 5:
I don't know how my truck is supposed to act.
This is the only experience I've had with these trucks and transmissions. I don't know if it's acting normal, if it's slipping, just finicky, or if it is toast. I have nothing to compare it to.
I know this is a lot of information all at once, but you guys really know your stuff so I think you can help me.
