Alright my 47rh has took a crap and I'm buying a little bit at a time. So far I have my rebuild kit and billet flex plate. Next is torque converter/billet input/ deep transmission pan and a new cooler. I really don't know what converter to get. Truck has a 4in exhaust, BHAF, star wheel cranked, and fuel plate full forward. It is my DD, well was. LOL. Anyways not much towing with it, and I do plan on a lot more mods in the future. As I understand a single disc is better for a DD bc a triple disc engages too harsh. Besides that I'm not sure of the differences. I don't run the truck like a scolded donkey. Money is tight but I wanna go with the better if the two. What do you guys think? Also what exactly is stall speed?
Billet shafts are completely unnecessary for a daily driver.
For less than 300hp, the trans mods in my signature are more than adequete.
I towed 11000lbs often this year, and will be towing 14000 next year.
For a daily driver:
Low stall, not ultra low stall billet single. I recommend Revmax stage 3
upgraded valve body
2nd gear band strut
150psi of pressure.
Yes it is my DD, but I'm gonna go ahead and build the transmission for more than that bc I do plan on modding the truck in the next year. Go big or go home the first time.
I run a triple disk for a DD. If i dont use my lock up switch, in traffic from like 50ish-60ish MPH it can get a little annoying engaging and disengaging. Other than that i don't have a single problem.
triples can engage smooth and not be harsh. All in how you setup the VB. Go with DPC, single or triple.
What failed on the 47RH in the first place?
New cooler? How many miles on this setup when it crapped out?
Build what gives you the most confidence. If that's a 3disk, flex and input, there's nothing wrong with that setup. And it can be setup to not hit lockup harsh. Do it for DD under 400HP towing rigs all the time.
Fred, I just bought the truck 2 months ago. 384,000 on body, 175,000 on motor. The guy had proof. I don't know how many miles is on trans. It worked for a few days but I got a knocking noise, found out my flex plate was cracked. Then it started slipping so I dropped the pan. No metal shavings but fluid was BLACK!!! Filter didn't look like it had ever been changed So I flushed it. OD/LU solenoids look wore/bad. Dropped the VB everything seems to be nice. But I just don't have a good feeling about it. It's a hit or miss. Some days she's a charm others not so much. And I have decided for the triple disc. And as for the cooler I think it's shot. Sometimes the trans will overheat after 2 minutes of idling. The lines were cracked and the previous owner rigged it with a hose and it leaks. Sorry for the long post.

I would take a hose to your radiator and transmission coolers. They could be getting plugged up. I would also wonder if the factory transmission sensor is defective (unless you have an actual transmission temp gauge). If you are stuck and have to idle put the transmission in neutral. That will help it to stay cooler.
With that many miles and black fluid I would suspect you need a complete transmission rebuild. If not now fairly soon. Always replace your electronics when doing a transmission rebuild. It is not a good day when you have to drop the pan less than a month after you rebuilt the transmission just to change out the solenoid you should have changed during the rebuild.
I'm buying a suncoast stage 3 rebuild kit. Today I took the pan off and let it drain for about 3 hours. But everything back together. New filter and seal. Autozone said it took 4 quarts of fluid.. Well I've put in 5 and it's barely showing on the dipstick. Truck has no pull now it did for just a few seconds as I had to move it in my driveway.
