Alright, so like it says in the title, my converter won't lock. Just randomly happened, didn't feel slippage at all lea dining up to it or anything. I'm sure my mods don't help at all but it really didn't feel like power issues more electrical the way it just quit. Any info would be great
Thanks
Your truck has a temp sensor for the trans fluid. I bet it failed and it thinks it is too cold, so it will NOT lock until temps go up.
If I remember right it is in the hot line in the cooler circuit.
Un plug it and put a 1k ohm resistor on it and see it it now locks.
Did it just start doing this?
Well tried the resistor trick..failed me. Have a few month old TPS so I doubt it's that. Have a speed sensor on hand but incantation find it's location!? As for the rest of the issues I'm not sure
I had a TPS be bad right out of the box. I was banging my head till I decided to do the voltage check on the newly installed TPS. I got a new one under warranty, replaced it and all's well.
Well, just pulled the TPS off and found out it's broken. The back part that holds the spring was just floating around when it was plugged in. My guess is, is when I hammered the throttle the little plastic holder deal must of came loose. When I tested it it read 4.7v and WOT was 5.0v. Pretty sure that ain't right so it must be a TPS issue.
Yuuuup, it was the tps! The tc locks up and everything. Was thinking about just leavin the resistor plugged in or would it be bad for the tranny? Oh and my tc lock up switch ain't working? Maybe a bad ground location?
Leaving the resistor in place of the transmission temp sensor will not hurt the truck. The only thing it will do is truck the computer into thinking the transmission fluid is warmer than it is so you can shift into overdrive sooner.
Leave it there, take it out, either way is fine. The only thing is you will not get a light when your transmission greatly overheats. That should never happen unless you tow heavy and if you tow you should have a transmission temperature gauge anyway. If you leave the resistor there be sure that no water can get into the connector as corrosion is not a good thing.
Did your lockup switch ever work? Mine did not work until I moved my wires to use the side terminals. Mine was lit and if it works and lights up the tc does not lockup. If it works without the light coming on the tc locks up.
Thanks for the right up. I don't tow but I do have a trans temp gauge so I should not have problems. I just figured out my lockup, I failed to ground it properly so I hooked it up and tested it. Works great now! Almost stalled it actually, was getting a little to testy with it haha.
Do you have a lighted switch? I've read that everyone had problems trying to hook that stuff up. A simple on off toggle with the on/off label is all I'm running with a lot less headaches
Since your tranny temp gauge now works no problem.
Besides telling the PCM the fluid is too cold it also tells it when it's too hot, lights up the idiot light and kicks out of lockup.
Ok thanks illflem. Another question for y'all, I was testin my lockup switch more and I found that I can lock it up in 2nd gear. Is there a chance I might have an upgraded valve body or were the 47rh vb's able to do that? Thanks
