I have a 1998 12v 2wd auto. truck is stock. It is a CA truck so it does have an EGR on it. I put a boost gauge on and realized i only got 16 psi MAX. I have searched for average psi and found that they are between 21-23psi. I am only asking because i would like to know if maybe the CA trucks have a lower psi rating? if not, what could i be looking for. Thanks.
You have a leak. I have an EGR motor and get 35psi pretty easy with a forward fuel plate and boost elbow.
Do a search on boost air leaks.....has been a bunch of stuff on that, even very recently.
You might not have any problem all. Could be you haven't haven't loaded the engine down enough where it needs more boost.
Especially true with a stock truck with choked down fueling.
Try flooring it on a good hill and see what the psi is.
The 215hp engines are gated at 23psi, the 160/175/180hp engines are gated at 17psi
