What's the cure for cruise control surge?

I just installed DDP2's on my '96.

With the DDP2's the throttle is *very* sensitive. Just a little bit of pedal gets a puff of black smoke and a surge forward.

When using cruise control at a steady light throttle, like 65 MPH on a flat road, i have a constant surge like I'm tapping the fuel pedal and letting off about once a second.

Is there an adjustment to make the cruise control less sensitive? I can't see anything looking at the shop manual.

i would also like to know an answer to this. my truck threw the abs/brake lights due to the sensor on the rear differential being bad. i have yet to swap it out. i thought the cruise was messing up because my speedometer would drop in mph and my truck was trying to catch up with the speed but now that i think about it, it didnt happen until after i installed my 130hp injectors.

i was asking a similar but not quite same question on another board.

i would like to test the effects of a restrictor in the vacuum line. maybe something like a welding tip my logic says this might reduce cruise sensitivity?

truck surge

I also have the same problem after I installed my hot vp44 and 155hp injectors. I get the surging when i engage the cruise control. I would also like to know if there is anything to adjust to keep this from continuing to happen.

Bingo restrict the line and it will soften it up

I have sort of cured the problem, using a Charlie Systems AntiSurge Valve.

This custom AntiSurge Valve is an item constructed from 2" of rubber vacuum hose and a 1/2" piece of brass tubing from a ball point pen. You crimp the middle of the brass tube almost closed and stuff it into the 2" piece of vacuum hose. This should be such that when you suck on it, it will pass air, but not much.

Then you cut the plastic vacuum tube going to the cruise control and stuff both ends of it into the 2" vacuum hose. This is adjustable, since you can recrimp and uncrimp the brass tube until you get it just right.

This slows down the reaction of the throttle actuation diaphram so it settles down and doesn't keep surging.

Watch for our announcement of more exciting new products! :

so it worked eh? i was thinking another option comes from the aquarium section of walmart. the plastic air control valves should be about the right size

should also work for towing with cruise. when im towing and hit a grade the throttle goes pretty much to the floor instantly to maintain speed. id much rather have a more gradual transition and maybe lose a few mph up hill and maybe gain a few down hill.
