external wastegates are usually custom installed, but Engineered Diesel makes a trick adapter to make the install go very easy ENGINEERED DIESEL - WASTEGATE SYSTEMS

from your post I've got to wonder, do you know what an external wastegate is?

You're confusing it with a blow off valve, they are far from the same thing, and do completely different things.

Read this TurboByGarrett.com - Turbo Tech101

An external wastegate is not cast into the turbo's turbine housing, but still vent exhaust gasses around the turbine wheel

A BOV dumps excess boost in an effort to keep drive pressure (exhaust gas pressure driving the turbine wheel) greater than boost pressure (pressure generated by the compressor wheel, also know as resistance to flow) to eliminate turbo bark (or pressure spikes in the throttle body world)

A pop-off valve vents excessive boost pressure

While they all regulate boost, if you dump the boost pressure when there is still significant drive pressure you will over speed the turbo.

Im really diggin that external wastegate from engineered diesel. Thats one of the better designs i have seen. Im thinking about getting one, to keep my boost down in the 50-60lb range. what do you think. good idea or no. I know im on borrowed time on my head gasket with just torqued down head bolts.
