Anti-freeze choices, additive ???

What anti-freeze's already have the additive so I don't have to mess with test strips?

I've got 1 pint of the Motorcraft additive, how many does it usually take when changing anti-freeze to get the proper mix?

That might be why my 97 has a crack internal in the water jacket. Between the oil passage and the coolant jacket.
Pumping oil into the radiator! Water drains into the oil pan down to level where the crack is.
Not the head gasket. Cummins store installed new hg and new oil cooler. They said it has a internal crack!
I removed the head, plugged the oil passages to the rockers. Jacked the rear end up so the engine block was level, filled water jacket level with the deck. Blew air pressure into the front oil passage for the # 1 rocker arm. Bubbles come uo from the water!

No one has ever heard of this situation before. I think the cummins store is protective of their product and are not saying any more than they need to.
Why would this happen to a one owner well maintained truck with 297K and then all of a sudden this shows up?
Electrolsis maybe?

If you already flushed the coolant system and changed the anti freeze, you won't have to worry about additive for at least 30k or 2 years

Running coolant without the additive will in time cause pin-holes in the cylinder sleeves in a diesel engine, its called cylinder wall cavitation or liner pitting. Regular anti-freeze does not have all the stuff in it needed to prevent cavitation in diesels, you have to buy an off the shelf additive like the Motorcraft or Fleetguard stuff and use test strips to check for proper charge. Some high-end diesel anti-freeze has the additive already in it.
Witnessed a cylinder sleeve pulled from a tractor the other day that was all pitted and full of pin holes from cavitation, so I'm looking to get my coolant in order in both my trucks soon.

From Cummins Service Bulletin 3666132-01:
"The B Series engine normally does not require SCA because the engine normally does not experience cast-iron cavitation corrosion. "

The test strips tell you if you the coolant is fine, need to add any additive, or the system needs flushed. And yes these engines are not Intertrashanals.

you only need the strips if you are not running an ELC ( extended life coolant) most of the elc are red or orange in color. the green coolant usually needs the additive.
