Thumbs down Trans wont shift into first

ight guys does this sound like a dying tranny idk well i stared her up this morning and went up the street on my way to work and my truck was laggin badd she was just blowing coal(witch is normall for my truck) but it had no power i noticed it wasnt doing its normal 1st to second shift so i stopped and tried pulling the gear shift into fist and still bogged and ran all the way up to 40 mph in what was suppossed to be first witch should only be like 25mph o/d of and all i shifted it into second nothing and then i went up to drive and it drove fine and it still wont go into first. So is my tranny dying is my valve body shot give me some ideas please shes my baby

which truck are you talking about the 97 with automatic? or 94 with manual? if it's the 97, check the fluid, if it's brown or smells burnt, you probably need to replace the transducer and governor solenoid and flush the trans.
