safe timing?

all i have is 4" exhaust, about to go to BHAF, a cut fuel plate to what looks like #10, and a "tuned" afc i get a little smoke if i mash on it, but it clears right up.. i think the timing may have slipped from the way its been acting. i have a buddy that has a timing kit, and said he could gimme a hand to advance it.
question is, what is a safe advancement to go without head studs or valve springs?

I believe mine stock is 12.5 degree so yes that would be correct. I believe it all depended upon how much attention the builder was giving at the moment haha.

The stock timing is shown on the data plate that is attached to the top/left side of the gear case.

Mine is at 16* .. starts fine but still hazes a little until the temp comes up... but I can live with that because it performs awesome.
