early downshifting???

Usually, once I'm locked into OD I can hammer it at around 45-50mph without it downshifting or pulling out of lockup. For the past week, when the tranny is less than 150* if I even roll into it the RPMs shoot up. I can't quite tell if it's dropping out of lockup or actually downshifting.
I remember hearing a while back that it's recommended not to use OD if the tranny is much less than 150*. Could the fluid being cold cause this? I never had this problem last winter though.

The shift points have remained constant.

Any thoughts as to whats going on here. I'm tempted to use my lockup switch to run it down by trial and error but if its actually downshifting I don't wanna hurt the tranny.
