nv4500 grinds going into 3rd

I searched the treads and I think I have my problem figured out just want some opinions I just did a auto to nv4500 swap and put a new valair clutch kit and slave cylinder and filled it with factory mopar fluid about 150 miles ago and I drove the truck on Sunday which was about 45-50 degrees and it shifted flawlessly. I parked it on Sunday and got in on Wednesday which was about 11 degrees and got about 5 miles from my house and went to down shift from 4th-3rd and it grinded and little but went into gear i thought I may of not had the clutch pedal in enough but then it started grinding shifting from 2nd-3rd and will only go in if I let the rpms drop then it goes in smooth and stays in and now down shifting is impossible from 4th-3rd all the other gears 1st, 2nd,4th,5th, and reverse work fine and go in smooth would 3rd gear syncros go out just like that or is something else wrong? I also drained the transmission today and took the pto covers off and cleaned it all out and topped it off with 5 quarts instead of 4 this time to see if it would make a difference and I helped a little bit on the upshifted part but still grinds but it did not help the down shifting do u guys think its the syncros or just the cold weather? Any tips or info would be great thanks guys

I had that problem.. new syncro and it was good.
Maxed 12mm pump, nv4500 w/ Valair DD, 35'' BFG on 3rd Gens, S300 Borg Warner, 12mm ARPs, BHAF, A-Pillar gauges and bad case of ITS .

check your master/slave cylinders..if they are good its a bad 3rd gear synchro. double clutch shifts until you can rebuild the trans.

mine has been doing that for a while... im just double clutching it and not let my crazy woman drive it till i go fuller

What did this cost to fix mine is doing the same thing. Grinds just going into 3rd at higher rpms.
99,2500,eclb,nv4500,5 inch straight mbrp,s&b cold air,EJ w/a,AIRDOG 150,150 injectors,sb dd,ARP,188/220 cam, super b special,cobra 29 lx,lots of lights,leveled,eagle 186 rims,cowl hood.

Lol mine does too.. Its worse when trying to shift quicker though. I just shift from 2nd to 3rd slow and easy like a big rig now

mine is the exact same way if i hold it and 2100 for a second or 2 and then let off it will slide right in but if i just shift normally it grinds going in on the up shift hoped it was a clutch issue but just installed a valair dual disc yesterday and no change been doint it for over 12,000 mikes and hasnt gotten worse so im not gonna worry about it

My truck was like this when I got it... found a NV4500 for a good price (because it had the same issue), put a 3rd gear syncro, put 5th gear nut fix on it, went through the rest of it (looked good), and swapped it... then fixed the one out of my truck & sold it.

not hard to do, but there are some specific tools you'll need.

seems common enough that I now double-clutch going into 3rd just to keep from wearing it out.
1998 QC 12V NV4500 4x4 LB w/ CM flatbed, #10 plate, timing 16deg, Timbren load boosters.
