Look at this first. Beginners Thread - Read First!

The automatic can be built tough with some money. I would contact some of the transmission builders once you decide what to do for power levels. The more power you add and the heavier towing you do changes what is needed when beefing up the transmission.

Then again, you can ask a big truck garage about getting a 6 speed Allison for your dodge it may be cheaper than building yours up all the way and it has 2 more gears.

As far as power levels I think I read up to about 450 hp is relatively inexpensive. After that it starts to add up very quickly.

You can build 500 hp pretty reasonably (after the trans is done). I would go with a 62/65/14 charger (good spool up with mild injectors and the 14cm housing will keep egts low), a good aftermarket manifold, 100 hp inj, head studs, grind the fuel plete your self, adj the afc housing, and a set of 191 dvs and you will be between 450-500 range. Reliable for towing, pull a decent load pretty good, and you should still do ok on the fuel economy side of things. Hope this helps
