NV4500 + what Transfer Case to use?

Hi,

I have a project in hands that will use a 6bt cummins plus an NV4500. The car needs a passenger side drop transfer case. I know that from 89 to 93 Dodge pick ups trucks had an NP205 TC that has pass side drop, but everyone says it's almost impossible to find one of those NP205 and if you find it will be very expensive. So I was thinking in getting something I can get much easier maybe through ebay or in any other place, but that will be easy to get and not sooooo expensive, cause I don't have a lot coin for this project.

I'm very confused of what TC cases can be directly bolt on the NV4500 without an adapter, can you please help me to clear this out ???

Also, I hear that an NP271 TC can be use with an NV4500 and it can be rotated to be used as passenger side drop, I hear that this was done by someone in competitiondiesel, but I was not able to find nothing about it.

So what do you think guys, what passenger side drop TC options there are that can be used with an NV4500?

Regards
Marco

You could get an NP205 out of a chevrolet and get a new adapter and input shaft to take it from the chevy transmission tailhousing bolt pattern to the dodge tailhousing pattern. Unsure what the chevy input shaft spline count is but the dodge manual transmission spline count is 29. Read on hear bout another guy doin that and it was all pretty straight forward if you wanna break down a TC. Believe he had to do some minor maching on his "new" dodge adapter for his chevy TC cause it was cast in India or some foreigner. Dont believe that you would be able to "clock" a dodge 2nd gen TC to a passenger side drop because it would throw the oil pickup tube on top of the TC and out of the oil. Least that what I was told when I asked the same question.

Hey thanks a lot for the answer back. So there's no way I can flip the Tc. I have seen some chev np205 tc and some adapters as well on ebay. And do you know if a Dana 300 can be used with a 6BT cummins?

Nope, tryin to come up with linkages or cables to to be able to shift 4 wheel in and out..dont bother! As far as the dana 300, that a Jeep TC? It all depends on what Tranny yav got as to whether its a direct bolt on or adaptable with aftermarket parts. If it is then the next thing would be will it withstand the torque if the motor is gonna be modified and/or 4 wheel will be used to help put the drivetrain and powertrain stressed or in a bind. ex: sled pulling, drag racing, hill climbing, stump jumping, or if you just wanna slam it down one and gowge on it. I dont know what your plans are for the rig but I'd think 1st gen dodge np205 (hard to come by though) or chevy np 205 with a dodge input adapter and input shaft. My 2 pennies anyway!

Yeap you right, the best thing to do is to use a dodge TC like the np205 or as you said the ford np205. What I was trying to do is to find more options besides the np205 cause as you said they are though to find. My plans are just have something reliable, the use for this car will be most a daily car and once in awhile 4x4 trip, not the heavy ones, like a tourer.

I have a np 205 from a dodge I'd sell for super cheap considering it has a worn front output shaft....I am in Oklahoma.
