94-98 PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect...NO ADVERTISING
So i've been noticing for a while when driving, anytime i get around 1900-2100 RPM there is a loud chatter coming from the engine. It isn't a rattle, more of a very fast chatter, that is coming from the engine internally. It matches the RPM's (as in it speeds up and slows down as i accelerate and decelerate.) It seems to be worst in 4th gear, and when climbing a grade.
Any ideas?
I have modded the truck slightly, but it did it even before i modded (intake, exhaust, #100 plate, plugged wastegate)

There's a guy floating around here with 780k on his unrebuilt cummins. Now, according to duramax and ford guys, his truck should have fallen completely apart around the engine 7.8 times, since they all know that dodge trucks are junk and only last 100k before they spontaneously disassemble themselves while going down the road. That has happened to me 2.76 times, and both times I was only wearing boxers while driving so it was really embarrassing.
138,000 on the truck, and about 3000 on completely rebuilt tranny. the sound doesnt come from underneath though, your can head it much more in front of your face than down low...
It was doing it when i first got it, and the tranny needed work done and it still does it after the work was done. There isnt a vibration or anything associated with it.
It also doesnt make the sound while coasting at that RPM, only accelerating...
I am stumped on it!

9612vinva- I dont know about the clutch, when i had the tranny rebuilt they told me it looked good. So other than that, i have no idea.
I'll try to get a video of the noise here pretty soon... It sounds like it is coming from right behind the radio. I just updated my sig, and i have done the KDP.
Suckindiesel- how do i check valve clearance?

Take care of the KDP right away. A loose pin will make a chattering sound bouncing around on the gears before it finally busts though the side of the case.

Stock for one day
So i was driving and took a video of it, and kicked it in neutral and revved it up. you can still hear it in neutral with the clutch in or out.
I read up on valves being out of adjustment, and apparently they can cause quite a chatter when out of adjustment...
She runs great, but just makes quite a racket! I took a couple videos too, and you can kind of hear it... is posting a video on Youtube the easiest way to get one on here?
