I've been driving my truck for a year anda half with a half working lock-up clutch... drops like 100 rpm when it "tries" to lock-up. Doesn't burn the fluid and is still shifting just fine. Is it painful to drive without lock-up YES, have I been doing it for a year and half yes. But if I could afford it it would be totally rebuilt.

I wouldn't drive it that way.

The failed lining can flake off and lodge in a cooler and restrict flow. Or it could continue through and block a lube orifice in the trans.

Fix it properly now, or fix more later. Its your call.

A non locked up TC is not letting the trans cool as it should. I'd get it fixed ASAP.

Non locked up, it doesn't let fluid flow. You're slowly burning up your trans

Lock up and OD are two different things. Lockup will happen in 3rd if OD is off (OD light on). If you force lockup to stay off you can drive it in OD with no problems. As Art said above it is not a good idea.
