please help kdp quick question

The kdp got my truck. So I was fixing the problem and when it came time to remove the cam. The cam was stuck when pulling it the first few inches. So I really gave it a good yank and heard something drop. pretty sure it was in the motor. Maybe I bumped a socket off the truck? Not sure. I checked all the tappets were still there. All the bearings still looked like they were there.
I rotated the crank a couple turns maybe if it was on the connecting rod it would drop into the pan. Nothing. Maybe it fell to the pan in the first place. nothing. Am I just being paranoid? Also when the cam was stuck I could spin it 359 degrees in either direction and it would stop. And tried to turn more it would spill fuel?

did one of your tappets fall out? Did you use dowel rods to hold them up and from not falling out.

There is a metal pin in the lift pump that rides on the cam lobe. The up/down motion from moving on the cam is what makes the pump work. When you pulled the cam the pin fell down into the pan. With the pin gone in the pan that is why your getting fuel. Get a magnet and go fishing in the oil pan. You will have to take the lift pump off to reinstall.

You're supposed to remove the lift pump before pulling the cam.
Forcing it out ruins the lift pump.

X2.

Did you get the cam all the way out? With the front cover off of the front of the truck, you should be able to see back into the oil pan some. Its possible that if something fell that you could see back there and fish it out with a magnet. However, the oil pickup tube will make it difficult. I would remove the lift pump and make sure the plunger is still in there and not broken. If you think something fell into the oil pan, I would be awful leary of starting the engine, or turning it over much for that matter.
