or just buy the seal and use RTV safely for a gasket. just dont use too much or it will squish out into the timing case, and when it hardens itll break off and fall into the oil pan and over time clog the oil pickup screen.

I make my own tabs also. Easiest to just cut them out of a 5/16" fender washer.

I don't replace the front seal unless it was previously leaking or likely to start leaking. Clean the crank snout with Scotchbrote or equivalent. Don't create any lead on the surface, otherwise it will pull oil out under the seal lip.

A thin film of RTV over the old gasket & sealer and put it all back together.

Take your time to do it right and it won't leak. None of the ones I have done have leaked.

Best part is you can save yourself some money.

I just washed up from doing the KDP fix on my truck today. Don't waste your money like I did on the BD kit. Just go to NAPA and get a crank seal, and a timing cover gasket. Just make a tab out of a fender washer. Get a tube of RTV ultra black and the big tube of thred lock red, take your time. Follow the directions for the crank seal, that was the hardest part.

Get a regular, circular washer.
Then cut/dremel it out to be a "tab".

If you try to install the full washer in there, it won't go in.
Yet if you "cut it" to be a "tab", it goes right in there with the bolt over it.

I made mine out of... a washer I had laying around.
Simple!

Can you use the bolt already there or do you need a little longer one to replace it?

Thank you. I would also like to know if you can re-use the bolt or if you need a longer one

Why would you not go get a new crank seal and gskt. Your right there why Cheep out. You do need a longer bolt though. And what you using red lock tight on. Hope you never have to take it out again. Blue lock tight is plenty.

Make sure to loc tite all the timing cover bolts that you can. If you use any material made out of something 10 gauge or thinner you can use the stock bolt.

This what I had cut on a cnc plama table. 10 gauge p&o.
