Removing the silencer ring doesn't change anything performance wise, it'll just make the turbo a little louder.

only benifit I found was you hear the turbo better, as the name implies it just blocks the sound vaves from going out in to the intake housing, diverts it back to the intercooler lines dampening it down to almost nothing.... I have head some say it allows more airflow but have not seen that theory prooven... the truck sounds alot better when its removed...

I dropped a couple of tenths off my quarter mile, and got a hot wife. I can't think of too many mods that pull that off. On top of that I can't hear her over the turbo.

ok you guys, look inside the compressor housing at the area the silencer ring covers. theres the tiniest slot that the sound sneaks out of, not enough to really flow any extra air or anything. its just a cool factor to remove it than anything.

It Will NOT affect performance. It will Make the whistle louder. MOPAR/Chrysler puted rings for noise reduction. If you buy a new, BorgWarner, ATS, II silver bullet, Super B special turbo, S400, ect.. They all DONT HAVE rings. So its bassicly to remove noise.

Mine has been removed and I love it! I want louder but cant afford to spend money on a 66 ATM Go for it it takes 2 minutes. 2 flat screwdriver and your done.

actually the garret turbo on the 12.7L series 60 detroit diesels has the same sort of compressor with no silencer ring, but the air reasearch turbo on my 8630 has it built right into the compressor housing along with the shwitzer 3LD on my 4320 john deere. however the VGT turbo on the ISX cummins found in HD trucks DOES have a removable silencer ring in it from factory, and even when you buy a replacement it comes with a removable silencer ring, so im thinking cummins installed them from factory. i wouldnt want to remove one on them ISX engines though, they whistle like a bugger with the ring in lol. with it out it would probably sound like a jet taking off under the hood ever time you shifted a gear.

I took mine out and i gained 1.5 seconds in the quarter mile and my sixty foot times dropped to sub 1 second... other then that, nothing else but a really sweet whistling sound, It's funny, everytime the girlfriend rides in the truck I always look at here when we are accelerating to see if she notices the whistle - no dice
