Dually conversion problems Please Help

I am doing a conversion on my 96 2wd single wheel. I bought some dually wheels off a 80's model dodge and the lug pattern fits but they wont go over the drums on the rear What do I need to do? Am I going to need to buy newer dually wheels or are the single wheel drums larger than dually wheel drums??? I'm confused any info would be greatly apprecited

Thanks

2" spacers between a pair of dually wheels getting twisted by a 1,000 ft lbs of torque sounds to sketchy to me Thanks for the suggestions keep them coming

Dont mean to sound y but if you have the money to build a 1,000 ft lb engine I would think buying a set of wheels would be the least of you worries.

Do you have the dana 80 rear axle?

the duallie wheels of the earlier dodges are huge and only the dodge offset wheel will fit you will have to use that wheel
i would discourage spacers as they raise hell with your fenders andare generally a nuisance

buy good period correct dodge wheels and you will be happy

one other thing i have found is that most used dodge wheels are ovaled i have to buy new to get the wheel hop out of the system.

we have a truck that probably has around 1600 ft lbs running two spaceres on each side and 33 inch trxs used to truck pull and never had any problems and my 2500 converted to a dually has had spacers on it for a year towing my truck probably 13000 lbs all over the place but our luck will probably run out soon !

Hello. I have all the stuff from a 97' 3500 that I converted to single axle. Factory fenders, front adapters with studs, all lug nuts, and rims. I don't want anything for them, just shipping costs. Want them out of here... Marc

Your problem is dually drums are smaller in diameter but wider overall. Your either going to have to install dually brakes from backing plate out (like I'm doing on my pulling truck) or just bit the bullet and use a wheel spacer. A LOT of sled pullers do this so I don't think your 1000Ft/lbs is gonna hurt anything.

The dually axle is a different width and has the brakes mounted further inboard. Doesn't matter what dual wheel rim you use because you have the wrong axle.

However unless you swap the axle and the leaf springs you are not going to gain any load capacity.
