1998 12V Auto Valve Body O Ring Failure

The auto in my '98 12V auto won't shift into OD, the rest of the gears shift as normal but the OD will not engage. My mechanic says that the O ring is blown in the valve body and that I have to do a full rebuild on the trans. This is the first auto that I have ever owned, only believe in manuals, but the truck was cheap! Got all the parts to swap in a NV4500 but if it's cheaper or easier to just install a valve body, then I'll have a fresh NV4500 for sale! Lol can anybody give me any insight?

It is time for you to find a mechanic who knows what he is talking about.

Do a search.

Read the tech articles 'stickied' to the top of this forum.

Learn how the system works.

Fix it yourself and save a bunch of cash.

Your 1998 uses a 47RE trans, but the 1994/1995 47RH transmission's OD and TCC operation are very very similar.

No OD could be a lot of things, opening the tarans would be my last step.
