The problem is that the trans sticks in first gear. It just started happening when i came home from town. I pulled onto my road and it just downshifted to 1st and didnt want to shift up. It only shifts if i pretty much have full throttle. I checked the trans fluid and it was a little low (little bit below the safe space) I added trans fluid to normal and it still acts the same way.
I have 3 cummins that 2 of them are 95, and one is a 96. One of the 95 is 5 speed so no problem with that one. But now the 47RE is in two of them thats were I am haveing the problems at both have been rebuilt on are goin in and out of OD now I have pull the 96 out and haveing rebuil one more time I dont know what to do. Thay all have been to Jessup for tunning. The 5 speed has a # 10 cam plate in it same as the 96 thats all on the 96. so Now my 95 has a #6 cam plate it do the same a the 96 what can I do I was goin to try and put the stock cam back in the 96. I dont want to if I dont have to. Can sum one help me out with this PLEASE
I see that you only have three post so far so I guess you get some slack. You completely high jacked the OP thread. If you want help with your problem you should start your own thread. Your transmission should be a 47re and his is a 47rh.
This same thing happened to me, changed the Gov solenoid in the valve body fixed it. But mine is a 47re I don't know if you even have one in your rh. You could try having a trans shop hooking up a reader see if that shows anything.
The fluid is fine. I put in a transgo shift kit not too long ago and replaced the fluid and filter. Is there a possibility that i did something wrong with the shift kit? or wrong fluid? I used ATF +4.
It is possible that the governor is sticking or the throttle valve cable need adjusted. My guess is the hydrulic governor sticking. Can try some trans conditioner tosee if it frees up, might just need taken out and cleaned.
I recommend measuring governor pressure before blindly tearing into it.
Note a 1995 truck has a 47RH transmission which does not have a governor solenoid.
I am willing to bet anyone that I could rattle off at least 10 possible problems within a stock valvebody that would make the transmission not upshift from 1st gear. Adding a shift kit adds even more possibilities.
If the problem just started now, the culprit is most likely the transmission throttle cable (also called TV or throttle pressure) adjustment or linkage. If the throttle valve is pushed in excessively, the transmission thinks you want maximum acceleration and therefore upshifts at maximum RPM. Check the simple things first. Your service manual is your friend.
