hey guys i was just looking to see if anyone has any info that might help me out, heres my ordeal...
im looking into buying some injectors, i have done some research and decided im gonna go with SDX but i dont know if i should go with the stage II (90hp) or for $50 extra the stage III (125hp) , i read that a stock turbo will work with the stage III but egt's get a little up there when pulling (which i dont do that often)
Would the extra 50 be worth it? will the extra boost keep up with the big injectors??
i have the stock hx35 i am pushing more boost than stock, and im also straight piped too. and at the same time when i buy the injectors i would also buy the 60# valve springs and 4kgsk also. not sure if those are factors or not?? but i figured the more info the better!
anyways give whatever you got to me, dont hold back let me know if im an idiot or if not haha
I'm having a great time personally with my 5x.012's and the little ol' HX35.
That said, I will of course be upgrading the turbo in the future, but damn those things are expensive, so I'm holding off. I don't see it as stupid at all to run that combo, you just have to watch stuff a little bit. I just came up and over donner pass (CA to NV) with my setup (just got the 5x.012's in) and had ZERO egt problems. I had to watch my boost more than the pyro. I have my w/g removed, so the only way I have to limit egt's is with my right foot, but I never got over 1200º. I don't even have an exhaust setup yet!
To the OP: Start thinking about injectors in terms of their specs, not the "hp ratings," they're never gonna be accurate.
"90 hp" = 5x.012
"125 or 140 hp" = 5x.014
etc...
Heck, even if you didn't want to upgrade your HX you could run a custom plate, tune your AFC and wastegate correctly, and still be having plenty of fun...

Yes there are tricks, as far as the wastegate you just need to have it set to open at 35 psi via some sort of flow restrictor in the w/g line (read that beginners thread...)
that beginner post is pretty damn good lol and thoes 7x.10s are sounding pretty good did some reading on those too, and should i get a cold air intake when i get the injectors? or atleast a bhaf, or will the k&n in the stock box do fine?
and if i do a cold air im not gonna buy one ill just bend up some sheet metal myself
I was about to say..., I really have a hard time believing all the people who say they make the super cool egt's on stock turbos with out a plate even at sea level I just dont see it
if you arent pulling a trailer you can get away with nearly anything... i worked on a 97 with a hot rodded pump, big marine injectors and an hx35 off ebay, fuel plate removed running 1400* almost all the time and he never had a problem
well i talked to jamie at CPP (from what i read sounds like a helluv a guy to business with, and very knowledgeable) and after i told him what i had and was looking to do and picked his brain for a couple he pointed me towards the 7x.12s so i ordered a set last night!
I was gonna say, Jamie sold me a set of 7x 10's and I have a htb2 64/65/13, running about 45 lbs of boost. A lot more air than stock, and he recommended a size smaller injector.
With the 370s (set at 280 bar), no plate and no waste gate, and 16.5* i can keep my foot to the floor till the converter locks up than have to let off cause ill push more than 35 psi on my stock charger and have only run a max of 1200 on the pyro(not pulling anything). Just my .02
no sir....just seems like alot for a stock charger. I have 7x10's and I agree they are clean, but I am surprised to hear the stock charger can keep everything cool with them
The stock charger DOES NOT I repeat DOES NOT keep 7x10s cool
If hes not getting it over 1200 on the pyro there is somthing wrong with his pyro or pump period. My 7x10s will pull 1600 by the time i get to 60 WITH THE WATER METH!
and right now with stock injectors, towing with my food buried in it going over the mt. pass with a horse trailer 2 horses and a camper i can do 60 and ill only have to let of a little, once it gets to about 1250*....
I have 5 x12's, a great combo. with a stock turbo. I pull a big-tex trailer with a 20' container on its back and have never had an issue. It’s not super heavy +/- 8,500lbs but it’s about as aerodynamic as a brick. I lay into it and she runs 1200 deg.
so i got them put on and it runs like a raped ape, im gonna need to get an intake and a down pipe then i hopefully wont have to take my foot out of it! night and day difference
but heres my problem, it purrs like a kitten at idle and if you drive it like you stole it it goes fine runs really smooth, but if you drive it like a sane person and roll on the throttle slow it chokes in the middle, or if you wick the throttle from an idle it goes, coughs, then takes off.
any one know what this could be? and i know i could just drive it like i stole it, even tho fun i wanna make it right haha
I don't see a fuel pressure gauge in your sig, do you have one? I would be interested to see what your fuel pressure is doing under those different conditions. A fuel pressure gauge is probably the best troubleshooting tool you can ever have for a 12 valve.
I have an S&B dry filter and love it, although the box and hard pipe from filter to turbo inlet do take up some space... Kind of a tight fit. Now im thinking a BHAF would be easier.
