welp, the truck for some reason is sticking in lockup. It seems to only do it after hitting overdrive though. Like around town its fine but after i go for a short run on the highway or it hits od on a main road it sticks in lockup. Once i bring the truck tto a stop it will try to stall or stall out completely. I'm kinda hoping this is a common/easy fix like a trans flush. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same thing happened to me also, been checking out some threads there sayin Tps possibly or check Tv cable found tv adjustment but can't get into the sticky---- TPS testing and adjustment--any help would be cool
from what ive been seeing in other posts it seems ppl are having issues with lockup not engauging or engaugeing too early or whatever...My truck will shift normally and drive fine until you try to come to a complete stop. Then everytime it will try to stall itself out. My brake lights all work fine so i dont think its an issue with the brake switch. I just dont wanna drop $300 on a trans flush and have that not be the problem.
Just an update, screwed around with my tps and tried cleaning some connections last night,that didn't help though stopped at my buddies garage today and quizzed him on it and he was almost certain TC was definitely not unlocking so he scanned it and came up with transmission circuit blah blah blah problem, he called a couple people he thought might know more about the transmission side of life and they all come back with either the torque convervter clutch solenoid or the torque converter itself and they also stated the filter could cause that problem--that is not my case. Anyways ordered the TCCS ($90.00) through dealer and they say they will have it for Monday so hopefully in his off hours we can get it knocked out to see if thats the prob. I'll return as soon I as I know my status.
yea i spoke with a guy i know who owns a trans shop. He told me its 50/50 on being the TCCS and the TC. Im really hoping its just the solenoid as a TC would be a LOT of coin i dont got.
I might just try to test the solenoid today if i get a chance. I should get like 30 ohms or so through the solenoid after getting the truck to stick in lockup. If not then its the converter.
I had a similar issue, mine was caused by a worn valve body not the solenoid. I started a thread on it and it turns out I'm not he only on thats had this happen.
Well it's Wed. night, I got the TCCS part Mon. and installed, no dice (if you need to check if she(TCCS) is groovy just unplug out of the top of tranny)--- a guy that "knew auto.tranny's" came through my buddies shop sayin he was almost certain it was a sticking valve in the valve body so Tuesday after work tore it out ( what a messy job) took it to an actual tranny shop to see if he could check it over--and he did--said the valve working 3rd and O.d. was tight, also stated that could cause converter to be locking-up. Well, I was able to re-install it this evening and yep you guessed it...NO LUCK I've had that pan off sooo many f***in times the past couple day's here it should have a god-blessed zipper on it.. Going to try the torque converter next----it's got to be the prob, right???????? The fella at the tranny shop I was at said he could get me a new one for $180-$200 and was pretty confident in his product he was selling..........I'm still tryin
I brought the truck to my buddys shop and hooked a scanner up to it. It's throwing a 34 code. Now wierd thing is is with the scanner we could cammand the TCC solenoid on and off. When we commanded it on it would switch back and forth from on to off. Now I would imagine it should stay on when commanded on and off when commanded off. Also we tryed unplugging the connector for the TCC and it made no difference. Truck was still in lockup even with the connector unpluged.
This is really making me think the TCC is stuck somehow or is bad.
not to mention damn truck starts doin this crap when we get the first snow of the year and now i cant plow with it.
also on the ride from the shop back to my house my cruise control isnt working. I remember seeing that as a symptom somewhere on here but cant seem to find the thread i read it in.
havent chacked the 4x4 but the hvac controls are working and switching. I also noticed on the scanner that the OD off switch doesnt seem to be doin anything. Like it lights up like it should to turn OD off but on the scanner its not showing it commaning the OD off. Im hopin some of this extra info will give someone an idea of what might be wrong here.
:::UPDATE:::
I spoke with my buddy at the trans shop again and told hime about all the testing i did. He said 99% its the TCCS. Should have the part in and installed tomorrow. Really hpoing this is it.
:::UPDATE:::
I changed the TCC which for all of those who havent done it before depending on which one you have in your trans can be super easy to change. I got lucky and the wiring on mine was good. I had the type of TCCS where the wiring plugs into the TCCS. Since the wiring was good i didnt have to drop the valve body in order to change the TCCS.
Although my TCCS was bad or had a problem, it didnt help with the truck being stuck in lockup. When removed you can shake the TCCS and hear the 2 valves moving easliy. The on that came off my truck only 1 would move freely and the other took some effort to get it to move. Im goin to try a transmission flush using a BG machine and hopefully that will help. Now im thinkin i got some gunk blocking the plug for pressure releif off the TC.
I tested basicly everything i can possibly test so we'll see if flushing the fluid will help. Sorry for all the updates but if anyone runs into the same problem as me they will have some info on what to try.
Now after flushing the trans the problem will only happen after i hit lockup in OD. If i stay off the highway the trans shifts and drives perfect. Im 98% sure its gotta be the relief in the valve body. Once I get a few bucks saved up I think Im just gonna bring it down to my buddys trans shop and let him have a go at figuring out whats goin on.
I always knew there was a reason I always bought stick vehicles. This is the first auto i've ever owned other than a S-10 I had and dropped a 350 V8 into. Autos suck!!
just gettin on my nerves now. It's basicly costing $100+ each time I test or try to fix the issue. Once I can get some more cash together I think I'm just gonna bring it to the trans shop and let him figure it out. I really thought I had it when the TCCS was bad. Wish the truck was stick....
Yes, as Joe G said, the tcc switch valve is problematic at wearing out and allowing converter lockup fluid to no get to the converter at full pressure.... Have you called a valve body / converter builder? Perhaps that might be your next step at finding your issue rather than blindly throwing money at the problem.
Or, get a service manual (either factory or ATSG) and disassemble, clean and inspect your valvebody yourself. Requires time, patience, and attention to detail.
Im in Connecticut. I spoke with goerend and he said it sounds like the converter so thats my next step.
Im not blindly throwing money at the problem but it does cost money to do anything to thease trans. I tested as much as I could and followed the symptoms. The problem is that so many different things could be the cause of this issue that you kinda just gotta wing it a bit. Really the largest amount of moeny spent was on transmission fluid. Stupid syntheic fluid isnt cheap.
I ordered a TC so once that comes in I'll let you guys know how I made out. Justsuper bad timing as i spent $1200 and a bunch of time to mount and wire a plow to my truck and this all started about 2 days before we got snow. Hell 2 days ago we just got hammered with 30" in 24 hrs. Kinda annoying when you got a plow and its buryied under about 3' of snow lol.
Sorry. I still put my money on a valve body issue. It doesn't take a fsm and patience to diagnose , it takes specialized equipment. I suggest you give Frank at rev max a call and send him your v-body to go over. What ever it is I hope you find it soon.
Well im gonna pur the TC in anyways and see what it does. At the very least if it doesnt fix the problem then i've basicly eliminated anything else it could be. I've wanted to crank up the pump since I got the truck and haveing the torque converter in there is the 1 thing i was dreading on doin. If thats not it then it has to be the valve body.
Anyways just waiting on the converter being shipped now. I'll keep you guys up to date as soon as I get it installed.
Trans is out torque converter goin in tomorrow. will have update soon. either this works or im strapping a block of c4 to the truck and making an insurance claim.
Better look at sealing rings behind front housing assy. It is not prudent to attempt replace TC without going through trans proper. could have saved you grief had caught post earlier.
