Hey guys im lookin to buy a 94 RCLB 4x4, but as i walked up to the truck i noticed he had a piece of plywood under the engine where oil was leaking. He told me it was from an overflow hose or some hose, he pointed it out to me. I dont know. Any suggestions on what it might be? If there is a previous thread on this I apologize I could not find it.
180k miles. It wasnt a puddle but there was definitely a large oil stain on the wood. It came right down behind the motor, bout an inch to an inch a half wide black hose. Right behind the front axle.
a small valve cover leak can make a big mess as well, or it could be the tappet cover, gotta crawl under it with a flash light and see where its originating at, look between the valve covers and see if anything is wet up there.
Im goin back saturday morning and will do that. By the way, like the other guy said about the kdp. Can the truck still run if the pin had already fallen out? Is there a way that I can check if it has or not. Ive read all the horror stories and dont wanna be making one of my one.
Try this: Start the truck, and crawl partway under it while it's idling. Look at the blowby tube sticking down, and see how much oil mist is coming out of it. A steady stream of mist kinda lazily drifting out of it is fine. If it's blasting out of it like there's no tomorrow, that probably means the engine has lots of blowby for some reason. I've heard that it can also mean that the engine drive vacuum pump is bad and is pressurizing the crankcase, though I don't know how to check for that.
By the way Neck, I love your username. What does it mean?
Also make sure there is not "major" oil leak on the front cover. if its never been touch its probally leaking some but look kindof where the fan is. there is a pin call KDP that can come loose in side the cover and bust a hole in the cover. if it looks like a crank there in the cover or some JB weld holding it together, pass the truck up. unless you like takeing it all apart.
after you buy the truck tap the KDP (do a search) so you dont have to worry about it. it can cause thousands of dollars in damage with no warning. there are plenty of writeups on this site.
haha thanks, actually I was given the nickname by team mates. In highschool my parents lived in the philippines and I played for their national u20's rugby team, we had guys from australia and new zealand come play as well and they gave me the name. Most people think its cause my neck is long until they see it, its short and very wide haha.
Ya KDP is first on my list, the day I bring it home Im gonna tear into it and tap that SOB! Thanks for all the info guys I really appreciate it:thumbsup:
other then seeing the oil leak and crack on the front cover, no, you can't check if its fallen out yet. unless you take off the fan, belt, shroad, upper hose, washer fluid and actually take the cover off.
but if the pin already has fallen out and you got lucky to where it just fell in the oil pan and did not do any damage, you can drive it like that. but i would get a new pin and put it in.
unless you see major oil leaking from the spot and a crack or a rig up job. it probally hasnt came out yet.
