I know there must be an adjustment for this, but i am not familiar with the 12v system YET.
Anyway, when the trucks cold, i must give it a LITTLE throttle and it starts right up. i have to keep my foot on the throttle for a little bit until it gets a little warmth. It trys to idle at like 700rpms. Which lead me to beleive it needed the idle adjusted UNTIL....
When its pretty warm. It idles at about 800-850. So i thought that was normal. on a warm start up, the truck cranks a about two times before it runs, unless i give it a little throttle again, and it will start right up
what do i have to do to get the fuel there earlier so i dotn have to step on the peddle? I want it to start quicker
I discovered more than 13 years ago that a little throttle at start up was the way to go. Now it is habit, even when driving non-diesel vehicles. My original starter lasted over 600k miles, so that is an added benefit. Low idle when cold is normal. Since idle is set with the engine at operating temp, A/C on and automatics in gear, 800-850 is right there. I have to check, but I believe the owners manual suggests a little pedal, or was it the tag on the visor:confused013:
im trying to find out what the deal is with mine too, when i bought the truck i didnt have to use the pedal to start it, turn the key and it would fire right up, now i have to tap the pedal to start it, it idles at bout 850 in gear, a/c on when warm so i know its not the idle, what else could it be?
The deal is the P-pump is pre WWII technology with no computer controlled cold weather fueling.
Just the way I prefer it.
If it isn't firing up right away during the cold and you have no air leaks the next most likely problem is weak batteries that just aren't cranking fast enough.
my batteries are 1 month old 850 cca each, idles at bout 850 in gear, a/c on when warm so i know its not the idle... someone said there is an adjustment on the linkage for the fuel shut off or something... any one know about that
i am having to pump mine also. doesn't bother me a whole lot since it starts right up. but mine idles rough till it warms up. almost sounds like a miss. anyone else experince this. anyone know what to look for as a cause?
You can't really tell just by looking at them, most often they suck air without leaking fuel.
About the only way to find air leaks is to pressurize the tank a few psi then go hunting.
