Charging and Tach Problems , ANYONE KNOW THE REAL FIX?

Tach cut in and out , And when it does it stops charging , i've searched and searched , everyone says crank position sensor , So i changed that 120 bucks later the POS is still cutting in and out ......So i cleaned every connection on the truck cleaned the plug into the ecm . She worked for about 100 miles , I drove non stop to see if it would cut out . As soon as i stopped at a gas station came out started it . ITs dead again . No tach not chargin . Anyone know how to fix this pos ? Its a 94 2x4 with a auto

I may be way off base here, but I've heard of a fix using an older volt regulator. I believe the volt regger is in the computer on yours, the computer starts to fail=no charge.Heres a link that may be useful.

FAQ

As far as I remember, It's an easy harmless and permanent fix with no ill effects. Someone who knows more will come along shortly. Good luck.

Sometimes the obvious eludes us so forgive me for saying this, and please don't take offense, but how are your battery terminals? If they need cleaned or tightened or stuff it can do weird stuff to the electrical system.

Carefully check the female connections to the PCM (ECM) one by one.
They are cheap and tend to break and bend making poor contact.

I had the EXACT same symptoms as your describing. In addition sometimes my wait to start light, check engine light wouldn't turn on for a few seconds during initially turning the key on. It is rare but mine ended up being a bad computer. Mines a 95 and 94s had the same computer. Try car-part.com to find a new computer or oreilys auto parts. I got mine used through car-part.com for under $150 shipped. Oreilys supposedly sells new ecus.

My 94 did the same thing, but the engine speed sensor fixed it. Did you set the gap correctly? Too much clearance could cause an intermittant signal.

x2 I just had to do this a couple days ago. Had the same problems as you and it cured it. The gap is supposed to be between .049"-.051" and mine was at .065"

Reset the gap to .051" and she runs like a charm now
