temp gauge install on nv4500

I've tried searching, but I can only find out where to install temp sensors on auto trannys. Can I plug into the stock trans temp sensor, thats what the glowshift directions said that I may or may not be able to do. I'd really like to not have to drill any holes if possible, or am I just dreamin? Thanks

I had to drill a hole in the pto cover and welded a 1/8 npt fitting in. Works great.

their is no stock trans temp sensor...

Your going to have to do some work. Easiest way would probably be to pull one of the PTO covers and drill it out and weld a bung on it for the sensor

Or get a set of these. Adds two quarts of oil and are tapped for a temp probe. FAST COOLER KIT - (DODGE 5-SPEED AND 6-SPEED)-Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage

Do you have to weld a bung onto the pto cover? Or could you just tap the pto cover? I know its prolly on the thin side but I don't see a temp sensor taking a lot of stress

Remove the PTO cover. Drill a very small hole where you want the sensor (make sure it stays below fluid level) and take a tapered drift punch (long punch that has small end and is tapered back to where you hit with hammer) and drive it in hole. Place the cover over something like a partially open vice to keep from bending pan as you drive the punch in hole. Keep removing punch until you can get a tap the size of sensor to start (most likely 1/8" pipe thread). Tap hole and screw in sensor. This will work on autos as well. Comes in very handy for installing a drain plug in factory pan without a plug already. This "rolls" the metal inside of cover and gives you a surface to put threads.
