OverDrive cutting in and out????? 95' 2500
I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500, 6cyl 5.9L diesel with an automatic trans w/overdrive. I have had it for 3 years now and once 2 years ago, and just recently it has occasionally been slipping out of OD (I think). I will be driving and the button for turning OD off will light up and it will turn OD off by itself and flicker on, off, on, off, etc for a few minutes and then usually "fix itself". Could it be a loose connection, or do I need to take it in or??? Thanks. ~BL

You could have a loose connection. It could also be the tps. Try cleaning the tps with some electrical cleaner.

If the OD off light is flickering, it is because the computer thinks the button is being pressed, due to a loose connection or a short to ground on the button circuit. The TPS does not cause this behavior -- in that case the computer is unlocking the torque converter because it sees the TPS voltage suddenly rise or fall. (Corresponding to idle or full throttle). But it won't light the light when that happens. |
