get it to a mechanic and have him check it out. On my stock turbo, exhaust, airbox with the silencer ring in i could barely hear it. If it is bad ya can pick up hx 35's pretty reasonable. or get a used one off one of the forums.

Take the intake hose off and check the shaft for play. Up and down is fine as long as impeller doesn't hit the housing. Also, look for signs of oil. You may have to take the clamp off bottom going to cooler to check it well for oil. If it still has the silencer ring in it, it will be fairly quiet, but not bad.

sounds pretty normal...

stock, you cant hear the turbo whistle and they dont have enough power to get out of their own way.

Even if the turbo is f'd, they are easy enough to rebuild/replace

check the shaft for play like said above, take it for a drive and see how it runs, They arent bad to replace and if you have a plan for more power than buy a better than stock turbo for it. Give us some more details on the truck- 2 or 4wd,auto or manual, miles, condition, reg cab,ext cab etc, whats he asking for it

Turbo rebuilds

Bill, aka Illflem, the mechanically well versed Montana rancher, mentioned earlier a company that rebuilds our turbos. The company is High Tech Turbo and their phone number is 801 304-0700. High Tech Turbo

Bill said they charge about $70.00 for a re-build.

Welcome to the club!

Regards,

Steve

You'll know if the turbo works, when you floor it. It's gutless, then it spools and slides you back in the seat a little.

make absolutly sure there is not any oil in the intake system it can cause a run away issue. had one at the dealer i worked at and well the x-ray kinda tells the rest of the story!
