I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, unless that new setup runs the belt across the compressor... If it works though it will be fine... I wouldn't turn the A/C on since it may try turning the compressor on, doubt it would do anything but I would just leave it on the non-a/c side...

I'm sorry, I jumped the gun. Is the compressor seized or is it the clutch? If it is the compressor just unplug it. If its the clutch you can replace just the clutch for alot less.

What kind of horrid noise. Please describe. The clutch bearing could be worn out. Look at the pulley look for little slivers of metal on the clutch and compressor case this is a good sign of a severely worn bearing, check if it is alittle out of line, and check your belt for uneven wear. If the system is overcharged with freon it could make a horrid noise but usually at first engagement only.

usually not, there is an electromagnet as part of the clutch i believe, and usually what happens is that the rivets that hold part of the clutch for the engagement section wear through they wear into the magnet and cause metal shavings. You can replace the clutch, but you will need to resurface this little flywheel so the new clutch doesnt get effed.

The clutch we'll be a complete unit. Pulley, clutch, coil, magnet, shims, and connectors. If you want to change the entire unit(compressor and clutch) you will need to evacuate the system. And recharge the system this requires a set of refrigerant gauges and a vacuum pump. You'll need the freon and pump oil, also. The pump must be lubed with r-134a refrigerant oil before you install it. As long as the compressor is ok I would change the clutch. But if you know about a/c systems and have the right tools you could go ahead and change everything.
