4 wheel drive problem

i have a 97 ctd and i cant get the front end to lock into 4 wheel drive. i have changed the actuater and still have nothing. transfer case locks in but it want in the axle. if anyone has this problem let me know

i have the same problem my vacum pump is shot that could be maybe why yours is'nt working either if you want to by pass that buy a posi lock kit 4x4 Posi-Lok Positive Axle Engagement System for Dodge 4x4s

i had the vacump checked when i put a new power steering pump on and they sayed that it was good. but it may not. anyone know how to check it yourself?

The vacum pumps do not fail all that often. What i would do is first is put truck in 4 wheel drive. pull vacum line at the front axle actuator and feel the 2 of them and see if you have any vacum there. If no vacum there, go to the top drivers side of transfer case and pull off the 4 line rubber connector and see if you any vacum there. If vacum is found there you have a bad vacum swith in transfer case. Just work your way up the system, they are very simple.
