If you´ve mounted a switch that forces the lock-up to stay engaged, and then if you cruising and starts to slow down, until you finally stopped without disengage the lock-up. What happen then?
Is it like a truck with a manual gearbox?
It´s hard to explain for me, bad at english. But I hope somebody understand what i mean

If you leave the switch on so the t/c is locked and start to slow down it will perform locked downshifts until you come to a stop, and then drag the truck along while slipping the heck out of the lockup clutches and eventually die, just like a manual tranny would.

But if you use the switch only when you`re cruisin and braking, not when you accelerate or when you are going to stop. That would be harmless for the tranny right?

You do not want to leave it locked while coming to a stop. If you are just slowing down a little bit fine but stopping with it locked is just gonna kill the engine or break something in the transmission.

mine will not down shift with the converter locked. it stays in od, and it is just like forgetting to push in a clutch on a stick truck. it bucks and stalls, at least on mine if i do not unlock it.

It seems like many guys here have this switch we talking about.
Do you towing things all the day, or why are you using the switch?
Or is it simply to let the gearbox cool down and not shift up and down all the time even if you towing things or just cruising?
Maybe "Cumnspwr"´s 2001 truck got a different tranny than us with a 2nd gen truck?

I bought a little red button that I mounted on a small grip that I hold along with the steering wheel. I put plugs in, so that I can take it off or put in on. Since I only use it sparingly when towing, I only plug it in when I'm going to tow, and then I only hit the button and hold it down for short periods, like going up a hill. Basically, I get it to the gear I want and then hold it down. This seems like the safest way to me, and that's why I did it this way. I've heard of others using foot peddles/buttons that work this same way, but they are perminantly mounted.

I use mine for racing only. Goes into lockup after the 1-2 shift so it will perform locked shifts. Many use it for towing when using an exhaust brake.

I´ve heard that you should NOT use the switch in accelerations cause you can damage the tranny. I don´t know exactly WHAT piece in the tranny that can broke but I´ve heard so.
I think that locked shifts with full power on the input shaft is not good for the tranny. It would be the same as you snap of the clutch-wire in a manual gearbox when shifting, or am i wrong?
