So over the last 4 days I have completed the conversion from an auto trans to a Nv4500 in my 97' 4x4 ext cab, 12v. I have most everything figured out and the truck is a beast now! If anyone out there needs any detailed pics or advice i tried to take pretty good notes along the way and can help with some of the more detailed questions that seem to get missed in some of the write ups. I do have a question for the electrical guys out there. How can I get the check engine light to turn off after the sawp? seems like there should be a way to fool the computer into the thinking the auto trans is still there. Any help on this topic would be great. Thank you
make sure gear selector from auto was in neutral before you pull the pin if you left the column in.
i can remember something too on the wiring from the auto down by the trans had to be spliced in with the nss i think.
it's been awhile since i did mine years ago but it's a pretty easy swap
Why does the column need to be left in neutral? And im thinking something from the auto harness either needs grounded out or jumped for the check engine light to go off just need some clarification on that.
ok i should have asked first, did you swap columns? and are you leaving the auto shifter in place or pulling it?
i read somewhere that to leave it in neutral or park i forget. did it do anything, i don't know but i just did it because everything was apart.
all said and done, when i finished my swap, i did not have a cel on because of the swap. maybe a connector was left off??
I left the column in and just pulled the lever off. as for leaving it in neutral I thought I would try that but in neatral the key wont come out of the ignition so its left in Park. The only reason I want to get the Check engine light off is because of the emissions check in my area. If the lights on then its an instant fail.
Never done the swap, but have heard you need to put a 1k ohm resistor across the trans temp connector to fool it into thinking the tranny is still in place. If I'm not mistaken, the sensor should have been in the oil lines going to the cooler.
This is good info here. So I need to locate the trans temp wire and put a resistor in line. What do i then need to do with the wire? ground it out, jump it to another wire to complete a circuit, just leave it hanging there lol? and is there a wire diagram for the trans that someone might have. Thank you everyone for the help
It's the Violet wire, and you're going to want to put the 1k resistor between it and the ground wire in the plug which is black with a light blue tracer.
