Cold temps and boost ?'s

Tonight me and my son went out looking for deer. Driving threw the woods and we sink in a wet hole. 2 wheel i rip on it and run it out to 2800 and here the wastegate whistle when i let out of it. Did not notice what the boost went to but on the way home i ran it out and it seemed to not build as much as normal. It seemed to run a touch more boost ( maybe 8 psi) on saturday when it was about 55* and tonight it is 40* or so. But this was a different type of situation. Will the colder temps make a difference or did i waste a head gasket when i spooled it up. I checked the oil when i got home and did not see any thing in it. I dont think the short burst of WOT would hurt anything but i guess i dont know. Anyone got any ideas or am i just being paranoid? It will still pull 30psi or just over. I guess that is normal. Not sure this is my first cummins.
Thanks

If you blew a head gasket you would know it. You would either be leaking coolant badly or most likely running hot very quickly. If you did anything I would think you blew a leak somewhere in the intake like a boot or possibly the intercooler itself. I would start by checking all the boots very carefully.

It was a touch hotter on the way home but still was not up to 190*. It never runs much over 150 or so. Might have been 160 on the way home but i was hooting on it too see what was going on with it. But i do have card board in front of the radiator. Seems to be alright, Im going to check the coolant before i go to work in the am. And check the oil again. At lunch i will check to see if something came loose.

I've seen diesels run hot in less than 5 minutes just sitting running idle with a blown head gasket. After letting it cool down I tried to drive it 1/4 mile down the road to get it off a 4 lane so a tow truck could get to it and it pegged the needle by the time I got there.

when my hg blew it was shooting oil into the radiator haha shop messed the timing up but if you got your airbox wet i'd assume that your egts would be cooler but your truck running at below 190 is normal and you saying its running 150 -160 means your missing a thermastat or its stuck open id recomment a new one

Im thinking it might be missing the thermostat, but it might be leaking coolant from the elbow where the thermostat is located. There is some dripping from there. I did drive it 3 miles home and was getting on it. If it was going to get hot it should have by then i would think.

That does sound like a missing tstat. I took mine out once to see what would happen and the gauge barely got to 150 in my 10 mile run. Yours sounds to be exactly the same. Your going to get hot spots and warping without a tstat. The water goes through the engine so fast it doesn't pick up any heat.

I think i do have a tstat, it will go up to 190* and then drop fast to 150 or so and stay there.

my thermostat does the same....and its 2 weeks old. mine was leaking due to an outer seal taking a permanent vacation so i did the whole thing and mine still takes forever to warm up and will go to 190 then drop to 150 and continue that pattern...mind you i have an extra 8 feet of coolant line due to a jacketed auxillary WVO tank which isnt helping.

Yeah it seems to be fine. I did a fairly hard run tonight and made 32psi so i dont think anything is wrong.
