Catalytic converters

Until I bought my 94 Ram, I'd never seen a converter on a diesel. I've worked on diesels since the late 80's and never saw one on a Kenworth or Mack. Does anyone know why I shouldn't just cut the damn thing off? It served it's purpose for 199,891 miles so any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave.

Take it off, but hold onto it just in case you run into stricter emission laws in the future. A new replacement one is around $900 for this truck. The cats on these trucks cause lots of problems. Currently these trucks will pass inspection most everywhere without a cat. The later years are a different story.
